Introduction to Postgraduate Department
On January 2006, our university (GPNU) was authorized to confer Master’s degrees after the approval of the Degree Committee of the State Council. Subjects like Ethnology, Vocational and Technical Education, Contemporary Chinese Literature and Systemic Theory obtained the qualification of recruiting and cultivating postgraduates.
These four master’s subjects are of extraordinary features. Three of them like Ethnology, Vocational and Technical Education and Systemic Theory recruit students only by our university in GuangdongProvince. However, Contemporary Chinese Literature specially makes research in literary thoughts, literary creation and criticism, which owns a stated academic position and popularity in GuangdongProvince and even across the country.
Our university established Postgraduate Department (PD) in July, 2006. As a functional department being responsible for postgraduates’ education, PD has set up two sections: Division of Enrolment and Employment, Division of Cultivation and Management. The main work of PD is as follows:
Establishing detailed rules of implement and management methods, which corresponded to the reality of our university according to the policy of nation and some relevant rules of degree and postgraduate’s teaching work; drawing up the developing plan of postgraduate’s education, connecting with superior department responsible for the work and related units, coordinating work with associated departments in our university
Carrying out the work of postgraduate’s enrollment, cultivation and management, degree granting, establishing master subject division and apply for master subject etc. in the light of dispose by higher level department and teaching work of graduate students. Besides, we make every effort to implement other work handed by our school’s leaders.
At present, our school has taken in 50 full-time postgraduates of the first session, among whom there are 7 ones in Ethnology, 15 ones in Vocational Technology Education, 17 ones in Literature of Contemporary age and 11 ones in System Theory.
During the work of postgraduate’s cultivation, we are improving the work of postgraduates’ teaching in the fields from tutor group’s setting and management, cultivation management, teaching management, outlay management etc. We are gradually establishing more sound system of postgraduates’ teaching management and quality safeguard.
Meanwhile, we open up training class of postgraduates’ tutors and seminar in order to insure the cultivated quality of graduate students; we also retained out-of-school and famous scholar as a tutor of postgraduate, which provides postgraduates with a favorable flat roof for practice and scientific research, in order to improve their ability and enhance job competition.
Education of postgraduates in our school lies on the basis of being paid attention to the theory, and is emphasized the cultivation of creativity and practice, which is taken as a feature of enhancing postgraduates’ job competition.
The PD attaches great importance to the work of building Master Subject Division, it not only pays attention to those four master subjects we have, but also set up 12 important project of “Master Division and Subject’s building” like signal and information processing, which are considered to be important targets of building for master division’s application next time. We are making every effort to make a breakthrough of master division’s application and enlarge scope of graduates’ education in our university.
