Scientific research
Since the establishment of the Institute of Nationality Studies, the school has made great progress in National Theories and National Policies, National Spoken and Written Languages, National Economics, National History and Culture, and so on. The people in the Institute of Nationality Studies have undertaken or cooperated to complete more than 20 scientific researching projects of the country, the province, the city or the institute since 2002, publishing 7 monographs, 138 papers. The part-time researchers altogether have published 13 monographs and 56 papers. And most of them have been published on core national journals as Ethno-National Studies, Minority Languages of China, World Ethno-National Studies, Social Sciences in China, Economic Perspectives, China Population Resources and Environment. For example, the Place-Names and the Connotations of History and Culture in Chaozhou-Shantou Region and Cultural implications of place names at Fujian Dialect region in Eastern Guangdong Province written by Lin Lunlun; The Paddy Rice, Floating Rice and the Legend of "Bird Field" among the Ancient Baiyue People: A New Explanation by Liu Fujing; An Analysis of the Chinese Loanword Stratums in Lakkia Language by Lan Qingyuan; Kam-Dai Words in Chinese Dan Speech by Fu Chongzhong; A Model Studying of Tourism Exploiting in Underdevelopment Areas-Validating of Chengbu Miao Zu Autonomy County by Shan Weidong. Our researchers have also published a series of influential monographs, such as Research on Hainan’s Economic History written by Chen Guangliang, Research on Paronyms and Borrowed Words in Chuang and the Han Nationalities by Lan Qingyuan, Hainan Folk-Custom in Chinese Folk-Customs Series by Xing Zhichao, and From Ancient to Modern Times: Culture and Literature of Li Nationality by Wang Hai. All these works are high thought of.The school positively strengthens the academic exchange activities. In 2005, the Institute of Nationality Studies co-organised “Languages and Cultures of the Southern Minority Seminar” with Minority Languages of China, which obtained the domestic and foreign scholar's positive response.
