Introduction to the School of Politics and Law

    The School of Politics and Law of our university develops fast in recent years and has been running for 10 years. In 2006, the school was approved by the Ministry of Education as a new full-time normal undergraduate program of law and had enrolled the first group of students (116 totally). Besides, there are majors of juridical affairs and of law for adults who are from junior college to obtain the undergraduate diploma. At present, the school has 600 students at school, which sticks to the principle of bringing up practical high-level talents of law so that they can engage in some practical jobs about law in public security organs, procurator organs, people’s courts, law firms, government, enterprises, and the employment rate of the school is high.

    A large proportion of students have acquireddouble certificates. In 2006, the school won supreme excellence prize for special type of task in GuangdongProvince. With high and energetic spirit the school organized students to take part in all kinds of technological produce contests and won the third prize in the ninth “Challenging Cup”, the first and second prize in extra class academic and technical producing campaign, the third prize in Guangdong Electronic Design Contest, Prize for work with the most popularization value, and the second prize in the final round of national contest of intelligent auto for college students and the first prize in “South China Region of Free Scale Cup

    The school has 20 full-time teachers, 2 professors, 4 associate professors, 30% of which are full and associate professors; 75% are teachers with master’s degree, 60% are teachers who are both professional in teaching and practice with the qualification of lawyer or arbitrator. The teachers have good professional ethics, rich teaching experience and solid professional knowledge. The school focuses on the combining of the theory with practice and the developing of the students’ ability of practical application which is the characteristics of the school. Moreover, the school has established constant and stable contact with public security organs, procurator organ, people’s courts and law firms. Our students have registered and become the volunteers of Guangzhou Voluntary Legal Aid Center, which is good for students’ internship. The school often organizes students to hold debates, carry voluntary legal consultation, conducts simulated court, open lectures on law and other activities. Students also are given opportunity to do social surveys in summer vacations to go into communities and grassroots to publicize legality and offer legal consultation. Of the full-time teachers, 4 can offer bilingual teaching. The teachers in this school actively perform educational reform. According to students’ diversities, they have sought new ways of teaching to firmly combine legal theory teaching with case teaching, which has not only gained good teaching effect but also received high praise from students in the teaching quality assessment. In recent years, more than 10 teachers have been granted excellent teacher in the school one after another. In order to enhance teaching level and get acquainted with the latest legal information in GuangdongProvince and in the whole country, the school employs some judges and experts who work for the National People’s Congress in law-making as part-time teachers who give lectures on law regularly.
